The Renaissance
Governed as an independent comune by wealthy merchant families, Florence was the catalyst behind the most spectacular accomplishments of the Renaissance and enjoyed almost unrivalled cultural splendour.
During this period it was the home of Renaissance patrons as well as artists and writers, scientists and humanists Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, Galileo and Dante.
The High Renaissance took place in the 1500‘s coinciding with the era when some of the grand families of Florence inhabited Palazzo Tornabuoni. The intellectual and artistic spirit of the Florentine Renaissance changed the destiny of Western art and culture. Today, art remains close to the heartbeat of Florence.
Private visits to some of the museums and galleries that conserve the city’s priceless cultural heritage are easily arranged by Palazzo Tornabuoni’s Club Attaché; occasionally, the opportunity may even arise to join restorers working on some of the city’s magnificent frescoes and observe their work from close quarters.
