  Spring has sprung in Florence

This Spring at the Palazzo

Spring has sprung in Florence, the Iris garden is bursting with bloom, and the hidden gardens around the city and the surrounding hills have become the arena of choice for every possible activity. On May 12th, The Angel Academy celebrated the centenary of 20th century painter Pietro Annigoni in the magnificent Bardini gardens overlooking Florence. Students of the Annigoni tradition exhibited their works in the limonaia during a grand festa at which members enjoyed fine wine, food, and music. On the other side of town, the Corsini family have opened

their stables for Florence Academy of Art's annual Alumni show which exhibited the usual extraordinary quality of art - many of the paintings were sold on line before the exhibition even opened. And in the Corsini the gardens the annual International artisan fair welcomed many visitors, despite the changeable weather.. Up at Villa La Pietra, actors, writers and musicians are arriving from around the globe to begin preparations for “the Season,” an intense month of writing workshops, musical performances and theatrical productions in the stunning gardens surrounding the villa. The Boboli Garden begins its dance and opera season under the stars in the beginning of June and the piazzas are already taking on new life in the cool night air, as musicians take to the streets to serenade passers by.

Music is in the air! With Maggio Musicale, the city’s annual music festival underway we are delighted to announce that the club’s Sala delle Muse was finally reopened with a lovely Steinway in residence. The ghosts of the Renaissance operas must be dancing with delight as the salon returns to life. Music loving members will be hard pressed in the coming months to choose between the plethora of magnificent musical and dance offerings. If you want to step out of your home, beyond the grand stage of the Comunale, there are numerous small, but equally compelling, performances in theatres, churches and venues throughout the city. If you’d rather stay at home and saunter downstairs for a private concert in your own Sala delle Muse, local and international high profile musical talents are delighted and leaping at the opportunity to perform in this historic chamber. Keep an eye on the club calendar for the most recent bookings.

In addition, true to tradition of the Palazzo, we have invited several particularly talented and rising young opera singers and musicians to use the suite as a rehearsal studio. Members will be free to visit and the walls will be well tuned for its new life ahead. When you are in house, stop by the information table in the library to see what artist is in residence.

This is only the tip of the iceberg, these are busy months ahead. In fact, because there is such an abundance of activity over the next two months, we strongly urge you to consult the Club’s online calendar, where you will find information about the new programs and special guest speakers who will be joining us.

Finally, we thought some of you might enjoy seeing the list of last year’s events at the Palazzo. We are always searching for someone or something new and interesting. If in browsing this list, any ideas come to mind, do please contact me at:
